Itinerary

The Unesco Arab Norman Tour will take you around Palermo among cathedrals, churches and palaces, the result of a policy of religious and cultural tolerance pursued with great interest by Norman kings: Ruggero II, William I and William II. From the Royal Palace, to the sumptuous residence of the Norman sovereigns, with the splendid Palatine Chapel and the Sala di Ruggero King, we will move to the cathedral, Christian temple and mausoleum of the Kings of Sicily. During our walk we will tell you about the extraordinary encounter between different civilizations and religions: the Norman-Latin-Christian, the Arab-Fatimite (mostly in the architectural field) of the Muslims and the Byzantine Greek-Byzantine. We will also show you the most beautiful squares in the historic center of Palermo: Piazza Villena, Piazza Pretoria and Piazza Bellini, with the red domes of two other beautiful Norman churches: Santa Maria dell’Amiraglio, with its beautiful Byzantine mosaics and the picturesque Church of San Cataldo.
